Rules and Regulations

THE TOP 3 CUB SCOUTS FROM EACH PACK ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THE DISTRICT PINEWOOD DERBY. Please click the link above for registration. There is no fee for any Scout! 

OFFICIAL PINEWOOD DERBY RULES AND REGULATIONS. ALL CARS MUST HAVE OFFICIAL BSA WHEELS OR THE CAR WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. Click here for a printable copy of the rules.

1. Width shall not exceed 2 3/4 inches.

2. Length shall not exceed 7 inches.

3. Weight shall not exceed 5.00 ounces (Official Scale at Diehl Automotive).

4. Cars need to have 3/8 inch ground clearance.

5. Inside (wheel to wheel) clearance of at least 1 3/4 (1.75) inches is recommended due to the track rails.

6. Axles, wheels and body shall be from the material provided in the BSA kit. You may lightly sand the seam from the wheels, but not remove so much material that it slides through the 1.180 OD wheel gauge used at inspection. Judges discretion based on tolerances will be used on a case by case basis. 

7. Official wheels sold from the Butler Scout Shop are permitted. 

8. Wheel bearings, washers and brushings are prohibited.

9. No lubricating oil may be used. Axles may be lubricated with powdered graphite or silicone. Any lubrication is to be done before registering outside the building.

10. The car shall not ride on any kind of spring.

11. The car must be free-wheeling, with no starting devices.

12. No loose materials of any kind are allowed in the car. 

13. Car must be the one used from qualifying (Scout is Trustworthy).

All decisions made by the judges are final. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated and will be cause for immediate removal. All Scouts must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
